Rolex wants to build a new production base in Bull with 2,000 jobs

After Geneva and Biennale, Rolex wants to settle in grass. The world giant of luxury watchmaking has chosen a second city in the province of Friborg to build a new production site, RTS has learned. Rolex plans to create 2,000 jobs there and invest one billion francs.

This new Rolex production site, planned for the A12 highway in the Bulle industrial zone, should open in 2029.

However, the city’s legislature still needs to approve the sale of two floors of 100,000 m2 to Rolex, the equivalent of about ten football fields. The project must also go through the usual investigation procedures.

The world luxury watchmaking company was seduced by the central position of the Bulle and Friborg region between Bern and the Lake Geneva region. Hence, the pool for recruiting qualified workers is huge.

“Rare Project”

“In Bulle there is a rare scale project by the prestigious company Rolex, as pointed out by the President of the Friborg State Council, Oliver Curti. Significant investments and the key to many jobs.”

“The project is on the right track and the Friborg authorities will do everything to ensure that it succeeds,” said Oliver Curti.

Project final in December

When contacted by RTS, Rolex declined to comment until the case was signed. It is planned for next month, according to information confirmed to RTS by the Friborg Department of Economics.

With the establishment of Rolex in Bulle, Friborg won the economic stimulus “jackpot”. Because, in addition to the 2000 new jobs, the watchmaking group will offer dozens of apprenticeships.
