Lizzo talks body positivity after Jillian Michaels criticism: ‘I love myself’

Lizzo just took a DNA test and turns out she’s 100% in love with herself.

The “Truth Hurts” artist stopped by Australian talk show “The Project” on Monday to talk about loving yourself and inspiring kids to do so as well.

Before the start of the interview, the hosts played clips of Lizzo’s performances and music videos.

“It was fun sitting next to you while you’re watching your own clips, it’s like you’re watching them for the first time because you still get so much enjoyment out of it,” asked one of the hosts.

“I’m really cool, I love myself,” Lizzo retorted. “I get a kick out of it man. It’s a beautiful thing to watch, like wasn’t that amazing?”

The 31-year-old artist was also asked about having a young fan base and if she expected kids to love her.
“I love the fact that kids love me, because I’m making music to make us better, to make us smile, to make you love yourself and I think that children need that more than anything so that they can teach the next generation how to love themselves,” Lizzo said. “Love your body.”

Although Lizzo didn’t address the controversy directly, her comments come on the heels of Jillian Michael’s criticism of the singer’s weight.

The celebrity trainer, best known for her stint on “The Biggest Loser,” stirred up controversy last Wednesday during an appearance on BuzzFeed News’ “AM to DM” by questioning why Lizzo’s body is praised.

When host Alex Berg mentioned Lizzo’s body-positivity movement, Michaels interjected: “Why are we celebrating her body? Why does it matter? Why aren’t we celebrating her music? ‘Cause it isn’t gonna be awesome if she gets diabetes.”

Michaels, 45, continued: “I love her music. My kid loves her music. But there’s never a moment where I’m like, ‘And I’m so glad that she’s overweight.’ “
