The United States on Friday announced $270 million worth of military aid to Ukraine, notably including four new Himars precision artillery systems. Washington would have given Kyiv a total of 20 units of these light armor-mounted multiple rocket launchers after this new delivery, said John Kirby, White House press secretary for strategic issues.
John Kirby said Russia “carried out deadly bombings across the country, destroying shopping malls, apartment buildings, and killing innocent Ukrainian citizens.” “The president has made it clear that we will continue to support the government of Ukraine and its people as long as they need it in the face of these atrocities,” he added.
The highly mobile Himars fire GPS-guided missiles up to 80 kilometers away, allowing Ukraine to strike Russian targets previously beyond its borders. The US will also provide 36,000 additional bombs, 580 Phoenix Ghost kamikaze drones and four armored command posts.
