Rafael Nadal maintained his unbeaten record against Frenchman Richard Gasquet has he advanced into the third round of the Cincinnati Open.
Rafael Nadal, 31, has never lost a set against Gasquet since their first meeting in 2008, won the game 6-3 6-4.
Nadal is set to get back on the World ranking as his closest challenger Roger Federer has already withdrawn from the tournament due to injury concerns. Injury also forced Andy Murray to do the same.
On the other hand, the 10 match winning run of Alexander Zverev was cut short as he was defeated by Francis Tiafoe who defeated him 6-4 3-6 4-6 and is ranked on the 87th spot. Zverez is currently ranked seventh in the ranking after he defeated Federer in Montreal.
He admitted that he was not in the best physical state after the game
“I’m only human and there is only so much that the body can take. No need to conceal anything” He said
“The game is over and there is nothing strange because it happens to everyone.”
Nadal will square up against his fellow countryman Albert Ramos-Vinolas. “I work hard on a daily basis and I’m glad I started well today”.
Venus Crash Out
Venus Williams lost out in the second round against Ashleigh Barty, who won the game 6-3 2-6 6-2 and is ranked in the 48th spot in the women’s ranking. This makes it her first victory over a player that is ranked in the top 10 spot.
