Actor Jim Carrey is to face a trial for the death of his girlfriend Cathriona since the Judge refused to drop two lawsuits issued against him by White’s mother and husband.

The mother Brigid Sweetman, and husband, Mark Burton, of Irish make-up artist Cathriona White believed that Carrey was responsible for White’s death as he was reported to be the one who supplied White with drugs, which caused her death.

White was lying dead beside prescription painkillers in September 2015.

The Judge

The actor’s attorney previously made a plea of having the lawsuits dropped, branding them “predatory” and “malicious”. However, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Deirdre Hill has instead scheduled a trial date for April 26, 2018. Hill also hinted at the prospect of looking into the case again as she has not taken the final decision.

According to MyNewsLa.com, Hill said, “I need clarity and that’s fair,” Boucher said.

Burton’s complaint of last year says: “Carrey wrongfully and illegally obtained these drugs in clear violation of California law.”

Moreover, he said that Carrey has conducted several attempts to “conceal and obfuscate his involvement and culpability in Miss White’s untimely and tragic death”.

Carrey’s comment

In a statement released at the time, Carrey said of the lawsuits:

“What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honour against the evil in this world.

“I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat’s troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control.

“I really hope that someday soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”

Carrey and White were seen for the first time together in 2012, and ever since the couple’s relationship were on and off until White’s death.

The make-up artist, who has suffered from a roller coaster of mental instability, was legally married to Burton when she passed away, but the couple were planning to file for divorce.
