President Donald Trump has confirmed that the investigation into alleged Russia collusion with his associates conducted by the FBI, led him to dismiss FBI director James Comey.

The White House has issued a Justice Department memo revealed that Mr Comey was fired after he allegedly failed to handle the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a family private email server.

Trump and Russia is a made up story

The current US president told NBC’s Lester Holt on Thursday night he had taken a step to dramatically dismiss Mr Comey before his deputy attorney general suggested it. Moreover, he added, “this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made up story”.

Speaking about his alleged collusion with the Kremlin, Trump described Mr Comey as “the wrong man for that position” and “I want that thing to be absolutely done properly”.

Mr Trump told NBC: “When I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said you know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made up story, it’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won.

“And the reason they should have won it is the electoral college is almost impossible for a Republican to win. Very hard. Because you start off at such a disadvantage. So everybody was thinking, they should have won the election. This was an excuse for having lost an election.”

Comey allegedly bribes Trump and sources deny

Furthermore, Trump repeated what he wrote in Comey’s termination letter that Comey informed him three times that he is not under investigation.

He and Mr Comey “had a very nice dinner, and at that time he told me, ‘You are not under investigation,’ which I knew anyway,” he stated in the NBC interview. “Then during a phone call he said it, and then during another phone call he said it. In one case I called him, and in once case he called me.”

Trump maintained that Comey has tried to invite him to dinner in an attempt to stay in the position, a claim denied by those who are close to Comey.
