Actors Jennifer Garner and husband Ben Affleck have officially filed their intention to divorce about two years following their original announcement to split, confirmed People magazine.

Affleck and Garner filed the documents together, as reported by TMZ, and will both seek joint physical and legal custody of the couple’s three children.

One source told PEOPLE that their filing was “super amicable.”

A different source added, “They always planned to divorce despite what people said. If you look at their first statement it says divorce not separate. They just did it the way they wanted to and did what was best for their kids. There was no catalyst, it was just time. Nothing has changed, they are and still will be putting their kids first.”

History

The former married couple quit their marriage of 10 years in June 2015, saying to PEOPLE in their joint statement, “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”

Friendship

The friendly ex-partners were spotted together frequently throughout the previous few months. The pair also spent vacations and holidays with each other along with their children in Montana, as a source told People that they “seemed to have a great time.”

Affleck had called his ex-wife the “world’s greatest mom” and stated that their children’s birth was amongst the best defining moments in his life.

“It’s a joy to hang out with them,” he said. “I think the meaning of life is to make good people.”

“They are co-parenting the best they can,” said a source close to both of them. “Whatever incarnation of a relationship this is works for them.”
