A man from South Carolina with ties to white supremacist groups and ideals was recently arrested for attempting to buy a gun with the intention to commit a mass shooting “in the spirit of Dylann Roof,” stated the federal complaint.

Suspect

Benjamin Thomas Samuel McDowell, 29 years old, was arrested on Wednesday after he purchased a .40 caliber Glock gun and a lot of ammunition from an FBI undercover agent. The man is a recently released ex-convict that built bonds with groups tied to white supremacist ideologies as he served his prison sentences for various offenses.

McDowell has recently been ranting on the internet about desires to perpetrate an attack.

Last December, he uploaded links to the Facebook page of Temple Emanu-El Conservative Synagogue, saying, “I love love to act what u think.”

Crazed Rantings

In an online rant three weeks later, he stated that Jews are parts of a plan to wipe out the Caucasian race.

“All they wanne do is stay loaded on drugs the Jews put here to destory white man and they fest on the drugs (sic),” he wrote in January, stated the complaint.

He had also criticized other white supremacists because he believes they fail to take proper action. He said they “ain’t got the heart to fight for Yahweh like dylann roof.”

The day after, he posted on Facebook that he wishes to buy an “iron,” or the slang term for gun.

McDowell then met with an undercover agent a week later, thinking the agent would  “handle problems for the Aryan Nations.” They spoke in a hotel, and McDowell unknowingly told the FBI agent that he wanted to commit a massacre.

“I seen what Dylann Roof did and in my heart I reckon I got a little bit of hatred and…I want to do that s—,” McDowell stated.

He is currently facing charges for felony possession of a firearm.
