A family spent £300 for a 30-minute tumor-removal surgery in order to save their 20-year-old goldfish- Bob. Bob is making a fantastic recover, and his owners are pleased, since he is very much “part of the family.”
After a family’s 20-year-old goldfish- named Bob- was struck down with a tumor, they spent £300 on surgery to save his life.
Bob’s owners identified a lump on his fin as he was struggling to swim in his tank. They had heard that Dr. Faye Bethell, the doctor that operated on Bob, had operated on a constipated goldfish, and so they went straight to her for help.
The 30-minute operation took place at the Toll Barn Veterinary Centre in North Walsham, Norfolk.
Dr. Bethell used micro-surgical equipment to carry out the operation. She said: “The option was to remove the lump or put him to sleep and now he is doing brilliantly.”
After the operation, Bethell said their owners were very happy because “he is older than their children and very much considered part of the family.”
On the same day, when Bob was put back in his tank, his owners say that he is making a “fantastic recovery.”
Dr.Bethell and the Constipated Goldfish
Talking about the constipated goldfish she had operated on, Dr. Bethell said: “I have never done a procedure like that on a goldfish, although I have done it before on more valuable fish like a carp.
“The actual surgery is quite straightforward but administering the anaesthetic is quite complicated.”
“The issue was the fish couldn’t poo and it would have eventually become toxic and it would have died.”
“There was nothing special about the fish. He just liked it a lot. People love their pets – but that was an expensive little goldfish.”
