Her album Lemonde led to huge speculation about whether Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z had cheated on her. However, whatever the truth, it seems any pain in her personal life has led to great music.

The singing superstar now has nine Grammy nominations, more than any other artist. She is in the running for Album of the Year with Lemonade along with song and record of the year with Formation.

Beyonce already has a whopping total of 20 Grammys and is the first artist to ever earn nominations in pop, rock, R&B and rap categories in the same year. Justin Bieber, Drake, Rihanna and Kanye West are also up for awards. It has been a difficult year for Kanye so far, as he is being treated for mental health issues after reportedly suffering a breakdown. Kanye is unlikely to be happy with his nomination as, while he is up for a rap award, he has missed out on being shortlisted for major categories including album or song of the year.

Adele

British singer Adele also has Grammy nominations for 25. She is up for album, record and song of the year.

Previously, the Grammys have been criticised for supposedly being out of touch with the times. When Herbie Hancock’s Joni Mitchtell tribute won, there was outcry by many who believed that the late Amy Winehouse should have won for her 2008 Back to Black album. There was also criticism then a Grammy went to Steely Dan for Two Against Nature rather than to Eminem in 2001.

It remains to be seen whether the Grammy decisions in 2017 will be popular choices. There are 84 categories in the Grammys, ranging from the best music film of the year, to the best album. We’ll simply have to wait until 2017 to see who wins durng the 59th Grammy ceremony.
