R&B star The Weeknd, who performed at the recent Victoria’s Secrets show, has told of his drug use. The singer, who has just released his new album, says that some of his earlier music was made while he was on drugs.

The Starboy singer, who is really called Abel Tesfaye said that he used drugs as a crutch. He added: “There were songs on my first record that were seven minutes long, rambling – whatever thoughts I was having when I was under the influence at the time. I can’t see myself doing that now.”

However, he seemed to indicate that his drug use had continued during more recent music making sessions. He said that there were times on the last two albums when he had got “back to that”. He also said that there were moments on the new album when he suffered from writer’s block and decided that he could not get past that while sober.

The Weeknd is currently soaring high in the music charts, with music streaming service Spotify announcing that he broke its record for the highest number of streams on the network in just one day. However, the figures are yet to be released.

The Weeknd, who was previously in a relationship with model Bella Hadid, was seen casting fleeting glances her way as he performed a medley of his best known hits while she strutted her stuff down the catwalk at Victoria’s Angels’ fashion show.

The I Can’t Feel My Face singer was also caught eyeing model Alessandra Ambrosio’s bosom as she strode past onstage at the Paris Grand Palais. He was chosen to perform at the annual show along with fellow music superstars Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. Clearly, Ms Hadid and the Weeknd still have an amicable relationship as they were seen partying together after the show.
